Introduction
After you register on eSathi and submit a certificate application, the most common next step is checking whether your application has been approved, is still being processed, or needs correction. The eDistrict UP portal lets you track your application in real-time using the Service Request Number (SRN) you received at submission.
This page explains two ways to check your status, what every status label means in plain language, how your application moves through the verification chain (and where delays happen), what to do when your application is stuck, and your legal rights under the Janhit Guarantee Adhiniyam, 2011 if the government misses the deadline.
How to Check Status — Without Login
You do not need to log in to check your application status. This is the fastest method:
Open edistrict.up.gov.in in your browser.
On the homepage, find and click "आवेदन की स्थिति" (Application Status). It is usually in the top menu bar or the quick links section.
Enter your application number. This is the Service Request Number (SRN) — the number you received via SMS after submitting your application. It is also visible in your eSathi dashboard if you are logged in. The format is typically a series of digits (e.g., 2613202600012345).
Enter the captcha code shown on screen.
Click "Search" (खोजें).
Your current status appears on screen with the status label, the date of each stage, and the name of the officer handling your case.
How to Check Status — With Login
If you want to see all your applications in one place:
Go to esathi.up.gov.in and log in with your Login ID and password. (Need help logging in? See our Login & Registration guide.)
Your dashboard shows all submitted applications — past and present — with their SRN, certificate type, submission date, and current status.
Click on any application to see detailed status including which officer has it, what stage it is at, and any remarks or rejection reasons.
This method is better if you have multiple applications running simultaneously or if you have lost your SRN (since the dashboard lists all of them).
What Every Status Label Means
When you check your status, the portal shows one of these labels. Here is what each one means in plain language and what you should do:
Submitted / प्रेषित
Your application has been received by the system and registered. No action needed from you. The system will now assign it to the concerned officer in your area.
What to expect: Assignment to a Lekhpal (rural) or Revenue Inspector (urban) usually happens within 1–2 working days.
Under Verification / सत्यापनाधीन
Your application has been assigned to the Lekhpal or Revenue Inspector for field verification. The officer will physically visit your locality or contact local authorities to verify the information you provided — your address, income sources, caste, or whatever the certificate requires.
What to expect: This is the longest stage. Normal time is 5–10 working days. During peak periods (scholarship deadlines in July–September, exam seasons), it can stretch further. If this status persists beyond 15 working days, see the escalation steps below.
Lekhpal Report Awaited / लेखपाल रिपोर्ट प्रतीक्षित
A variation of "Under Verification" — it means the application is with the Lekhpal specifically, and the system is waiting for the Lekhpal to submit the field verification report.
What to do: Nothing yet, unless this persists beyond 10–15 working days. If it does, file a grievance.
Forwarded to Tehsildar / तहसीलदार को अग्रेषित
Good news — field verification is complete. The Lekhpal or Revenue Inspector has submitted the verification report, and it has been forwarded to the Tehsildar (or SDM for certain services) for final review and digital signature.
What to expect: The Tehsildar typically reviews and signs within 2–5 working days. If the report is positive, approval follows quickly.
Approved / स्वीकृत
Your application has been approved by the Tehsildar or SDM. The system is now generating the digitally signed certificate.
What to expect: Certificate generation usually happens within 24–48 hours of approval. Check back soon — the status will change to "Certificate Generated."
Certificate Generated / प्रमाण पत्र जारी
Your certificate is ready. You can now download it from your eSathi dashboard as a digitally signed PDF. The certificate has a unique Certificate Number and a QR code — both are used for verification by third parties like universities, employers, and courts.
What to do: Log in to eSathi, find the application, and click the download link. Save the PDF and print copies as needed. The certificate is also available in your DigiLocker account if you have one linked.
Rejected / अस्वीकृत
Your application was rejected. The rejection reason is visible in your eSathi dashboard when you click on the application.
Common rejection reasons include unclear or blurry document scans, name mismatch between your form and Aadhaar, wrong or incomplete address, failed field verification, missing self-declaration form, or incorrect information.
What to do: Read the rejection reason carefully, fix the specific issue, and reapply. There is no penalty or limit on reapplying. If you believe the rejection is unjustified, you can appeal to the SDM or file a grievance on the portal.
Pending for Correction / संशोधनाधीन
The verifying officer found a minor issue that can be corrected without full rejection. You need to log in, check what needs correction (usually a document or a form field), make the fix, and resubmit.
What to do: Log in to eSathi, open the application, read the correction note, make the required change, and submit again. Your SRN stays the same.
Returned / वापस भेजा गया
Similar to "Pending for Correction" — the application has been sent back to you for specific changes. Check the remarks, fix the issue, and resubmit.
The Verification Chain — How Your Application Moves
Understanding the exact path your application takes helps you identify where a delay is happening and who is responsible:
Submission: You submit the application on eSathi with documents and fee payment. System generates your SRN. Status: "Submitted."
Assignment: The system automatically assigns the application to the Lekhpal (for rural addresses) or Revenue Inspector (for urban addresses) in your jurisdiction based on your stated tehsil and block.
Field Verification: The Lekhpal or Revenue Inspector physically verifies the information. For income certificates, they check income sources. For caste certificates, they verify community status. For domicile, they confirm residence. This stage takes the most time — typically 5–10 working days, longer during peak periods.
Report Submission: After verification, the officer submits a digital report through the system. The report either recommends approval or flags discrepancies.
Tehsildar Review: The Tehsildar (or SDM for certain services) reviews the verification report. If satisfied, they apply their Digital Signature Certificate (DSC) to the document.
Certificate Generation: The signed certificate is generated as a PDF with a unique Certificate Number and QR code. It becomes available for download in your eSathi account and in DigiLocker.
The typical timeline from submission to certificate generation is 7–15 working days for most revenue certificates, though active officers in some districts complete it in 3–5 days.
What to Do When Your Application is Stuck
If stuck for less than 15 working days: This is within the normal processing window. Field verification takes time, especially in rural areas or during peak seasons. Wait and check status daily.
If stuck at "Under Verification" or "Lekhpal Report Awaited" for more than 15 working days:
1File a grievance on the portal
Go to edistrict.up.gov.in → Login → Grievance/शिकायत section. Enter your SRN, application date, and describe the delay. The grievance is routed to the District Informatics Officer and the concerned Tehsildar.
2Call the helpline
Dial 0522-2304706 during working hours. Have your SRN ready. Ask for the status update and the name of the Lekhpal handling your case.
3Email support
Send an email to ceghelpdesk@gmail.com with your SRN, application date, certificate type, and district. Mention how many days have passed.
If the portal grievance doesn't resolve it within a week: Now you use your legal right. The Uttar Pradesh Janhit Guarantee Adhiniyam, 2011 is a state law that guarantees time-bound delivery of public services, and most eDistrict revenue certificates fall under it.
Your Legal Right — Janhit Guarantee Appeal Process
Under the Janhit Guarantee Adhiniyam, 2011 (UP Act No. 3 of 2011), if the designated officer (typically the Tehsildar) does not process your application within the prescribed time limit, you have two levels of appeal:
First Appeal
- File within 30 days of the deadline expiring
- Submit to the First Appellate Authority — usually the Additional District Magistrate (ADM) of your district
- Include: your SRN, date of application, the prescribed timeline for your service type, and proof that the deadline has passed
- You can submit in writing at the District Magistrate (DM) office or through the portal's grievance section citing the Janhit Guarantee Act specifically
- The First Appellate Authority can order the designated officer to provide the service within a specified period, or reject the appeal
Second Appeal
- If the First Appellate Authority doesn't resolve it, file a Second Appeal within 60 days
- Submit to the Second Appellate Authority — typically the District Magistrate (DM) or a senior officer designated by the state government
- The Second Appellate Authority has powers equivalent to a civil court — they can summon officers, inspect documents, and impose penalties
Officer penalties: Under the Act, officers who fail to deliver services within the prescribed timeline without valid reason are liable for monetary penalties. This makes the timelines enforceable, not merely advisory. This right is especially important during time-sensitive situations — UP Scholarship application deadlines, UPSC/UPPSC/SSC exam document submission windows, and state government job application cutoffs.
SRN vs Certificate Number — The Difference
This is a common point of confusion that causes people to enter the wrong number when checking status or downloading certificates:
Service Request Number (SRN)
Generated when you submit your application. This is your tracking number during the processing period. Use it to check application status. Format: a long numeric string (e.g., 2613202600012345). You receive it via SMS at submission and can find it in your eSathi dashboard.
Certificate Number
A separate unique identifier printed on the final issued certificate after approval. It appears on the digitally signed PDF along with a QR code. Third parties — universities, recruitment boards, employers, courts — use this number to verify your certificate through the portal.
In short: SRN is for tracking before approval. Certificate Number is for verification after approval.
Status Check for Specific Certificate Types
The status check process is identical for all certificate types — you always use the same "Application Status" page and enter your SRN. However, the verification chain and typical timelines differ slightly:
Income Certificate (आय प्रमाण पत्र)
Lekhpal verifies income sources — salary records for salaried individuals, Gram Pradhan consultation for rural/self-employed. Typical: 7–15 days. Peak delays during UP Scholarship season (July–September). Full guide
Caste Certificate (जाति प्रमाण पत्र)
Lekhpal verifies community status through local inquiry and community leader consultation. SC/ST verification may involve checking against the Presidential Order list for UP. Typical: 7–15 days. Full guide
Domicile Certificate (निवास प्रमाण पत्र)
Lekhpal confirms residence at the stated address — may visit in person or consult local authorities. Typical: 7–15 days. Full guide
Birth Certificate (जन्म प्रमाण पत्र)
Verification through hospital records or Anganwadi records. Delayed registration (after 1 year) takes longer due to additional documentation requirements. Full guide
Death Certificate (मृत्यु प्रमाण पत्र)
Verification through hospital records, Gram Pradhan certificate, or police panchnama. Delayed registration requires magistrate's order. Full guide
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I check my application status without logging in?
Yes. Go to edistrict.up.gov.in, click "Application Status" (आवेदन की स्थिति), enter your application number and captcha, and click Search. No login is needed.
I lost my Service Request Number (SRN). How do I find it?
Log in to your eSathi account at esathi.up.gov.in. Your dashboard lists all submitted applications with their SRNs. If you also forgot your login credentials, see our Login & Registration guide for recovery steps.
My status has shown "Under Verification" for 3 weeks. Is this normal?
Standard processing is 7–15 working days. Beyond 15 working days, file a grievance on the portal (edistrict.up.gov.in → Login → Grievance/शिकायत). If unresolved, you have the legal right to file a First Appeal under the Janhit Guarantee Adhiniyam, 2011.
What does "Lekhpal Report Awaited" mean?
The application is with the Lekhpal, and the system is waiting for the field verification report to be submitted. The Lekhpal needs to visit your area and file findings. If this persists beyond 15 days, escalate through the portal's grievance section.
My application was rejected. Can I reapply?
Yes. Check the rejection reason in your eSathi dashboard, fix the issue, and submit a new application. There is no penalty or limit on reapplications. You will receive a new SRN.
What is the difference between SRN and Certificate Number?
SRN (Service Request Number) is your tracking ID during processing. Certificate Number is the unique ID on the final issued certificate, used by third parties for verification. They are different numbers.
How do I download my certificate after approval?
When your status shows "Certificate Generated" (प्रमाण पत्र जारी), log in to eSathi, find the application, and click download. The certificate is a digitally signed PDF. Full instructions in our Certificate Download guide.
Does checking status cost anything?
No. Checking your application status is completely free, whether you use the homepage method or the logged-in dashboard.
