Introduction — What is eSathi Login?
When people search for "eDistrict UP login" or "eSathi login," they mean the same thing — logging into the citizen portal where you apply for income, caste, domicile, birth, death, and other certificates online. The portal you actually log into is esathi.up.gov.in, which is the citizen-facing front end of the eDistrict UP system.
Before you can apply for any certificate, you need an eSathi account. Registration is free, takes about 5 minutes, and requires only a mobile number linked to your Aadhaar. Once registered, you can log in, apply for certificates, track your application status, and download approved certificates — all from one dashboard.
This guide covers everything: how to register a new account, how to log in, how to reset your password or recover your login ID, the difference between citizen login and other login types, and fixes for every common error you might face.
Before You Start — What You Need
A mobile phone with active SIM
The mobile number must be linked to your Aadhaar card. All OTPs during registration and for future logins are sent to this number. If your current number is not linked, visit your nearest Aadhaar Seva Kendra first.
Your Aadhaar number
The portal uses Aadhaar e-KYC to verify your identity. Your name, date of birth, gender, and photo are pulled from your Aadhaar record automatically. If your Aadhaar has a spelling issue, fix it at UIDAI before registering.
A working internet connection
The portal works on any browser. Chrome is recommended as it handles captcha and form elements most reliably.
An email address
Optional but recommended. Serves as a secondary recovery option.
How to Register on eSathi — Step by Step
Go to the portal
Open edistrict.up.gov.in. Click "Citizen Login (eSathi)" — you will be redirected to esathi.up.gov.in. You can also go directly to esathi.up.gov.in.
Click "New User Registration"
On the eSathi login page, click the link below the login form.
Create your Login ID
This is the most important step. Your Login ID is your permanent username. Rules: 6-8 characters, letters and numbers only (like atul123), must be unique — click "Check Availability" to confirm. Write it down — this is NOT your mobile number or email.
Fill the registration form
Enter your full name (exactly as on Aadhaar), date of birth, gender, residential address with pin code, district, mobile number (linked to Aadhaar), and email (optional).
Complete the captcha and save
Enter the captcha code shown on screen and click "Save". If the captcha is unclear, click the refresh button to get a new one.
Aadhaar OTP verification
An OTP will be sent to your Aadhaar-linked mobile number. Enter the OTP. Your name, photo, and other details will be pulled from your Aadhaar record automatically.
First login
Use your Login ID as username and the OTP as your password to log in for the first time. The system will prompt you to set a permanent password.
Set your permanent password
Choose a strong password. Registration is now complete — your account is active and ready to use.
How to Log In to eSathi
Go to esathi.up.gov.in (or visit edistrict.up.gov.in and click "Citizen Login")
Enter your Login ID (your 6-8 character alphanumeric ID, not your mobile number)
Enter your password
Enter the captcha code displayed on screen
Click Submit
Important: The login page URL is esathi.up.gov.in/citizenservices/login/login.aspx. If you land on any other URL, do not enter your credentials — it may be a phishing site.
How to Reset Your Password
Go to the eSathi login page at esathi.up.gov.in
Click "Forgot Password" below the login form
Enter your registered mobile number
Click "Send OTP"
Enter the OTP received on your mobile
Set a new password
Log in with your Login ID and new password
Note: The OTP is valid for 10 minutes. If it expires, go back and request a new one.
How to Recover Your Forgotten Login ID
Go to the eSathi login page at esathi.up.gov.in
Click "Forgot Login ID"
Enter your registered mobile number
Your Login ID will be sent to your mobile via SMS
Note: If your mobile number has changed and you no longer have access to it, contact the helpline at 0522-2304706 or email ceghelpdesk@gmail.com with your Login ID and identity details.
Three Types of Login — Citizen, CSC, and Department
Citizen Login (eSathi)
This is what you use. URL: esathi.up.gov.in. You create your own account and manage applications directly. Apply for certificates, track status, download approved documents, and file grievances — all from your personal dashboard.
CSC Operator Login
Used by trained operators at Common Service Centres (Jan Seva Kendra). They have separate credentials via eseva.csccloud.in. You do not need CSC credentials — the operator handles the application on your behalf.
Department / Officer Login
Used by government officials (Lekhpal, Revenue Inspector, Tehsildar, SDM) to process and approve applications. This is an internal administrative portal. Citizens never use this login.
Warning: If someone asks for your eSathi login credentials at a CSC, do not share them. A CSC operator uses their own credentials to apply on your behalf. They should never need your Login ID or password.
Common Errors and How to Fix Them
1"Login ID already exists" during registration
The Login ID you chose is already taken by another user. Try a different combination — add numbers to the end of your name (like rahul456, priya2024). Always click "Check Availability" before proceeding.
2OTP not received during registration
This can happen due to network issues, wrong mobile number (must be the one linked to your Aadhaar), or the 2-3 minute cooldown between OTP requests. Check your SMS spam folder. During peak traffic (July-September scholarship season), delays are common. Also check if DND (Do Not Disturb) is active on your number — disable it via your operator.
3Captcha mismatch / invalid captcha
The captcha is case-sensitive — type it exactly as shown. Click the refresh button for a clearer image. Clear your browser cache, use Chrome, try incognito mode, and disable any ad-blockers which can interfere with captcha loading.
4"Invalid Login ID or Password"
Remember that your Login ID is NOT your mobile number, email address, or Aadhaar number — it is the 6-8 character alphanumeric username you created during registration. The password is case-sensitive. Use "Forgot Login ID" if you cannot remember your ID, or "Forgot Password" to reset your password via OTP.
5Page not loading / server error / timeout
The portal faces heavy traffic during scholarship deadlines and exam seasons. Try accessing the site early morning (6-8 AM) when traffic is lowest. Use Chrome, clear your cache, and switch between WiFi and mobile data. The portal may also be down for scheduled maintenance — usually comes back within a few hours.
6"Mobile number already registered"
The system allows only one account per mobile number. You already have an account linked to this number. Use "Forgot Login ID" to recover your existing Login ID, then use "Forgot Password" to reset your password if needed.
7Aadhaar e-KYC verification failed
Verify that the mobile number you entered is the one linked to your Aadhaar. If you recently updated your Aadhaar details, wait 48 hours for the changes to sync. UIDAI servers may also experience downtime — try again later. If the issue persists, visit your nearest Aadhaar Seva Kendra to confirm your linked mobile number.
8"Session expired" while filling the form
The portal has a 15-20 minute session timeout. If you take too long to fill the form, the session expires and you lose your progress. Have all your details ready before starting. Fill the form quickly and submit without long pauses.
After Login — What Can You Do
Apply for certificates — Income, caste, domicile, birth, death, and more. Use the document checker to see what you need for each certificate.
Track application status — Check where your application is in the verification chain. Full status tracking guide.
Download certificates — Download your approved, digitally signed certificates as PDF. Certificate download guide.
File grievances — If your application is delayed, submit a complaint through the grievance section.
View past applications — Access your complete application history, including previously issued certificates and their details.
Security Tips
Never share your Login ID or password — not even with CSC operators. They use their own credentials to help you.
Always verify the URL — Make sure the address bar shows esathi.up.gov.in before entering your credentials.
Don't save your password on shared or public computers — Always choose "No" when the browser asks to save your password on a device that others use.
Change your password periodically — Update your password every few months to keep your account secure.
Any SMS or WhatsApp message asking for your password is a scam — The government never asks for your password via SMS, WhatsApp, or email.
Log out properly after each session — Click the "Logout" button instead of just closing the browser tab.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the URL for eDistrict UP citizen login?
The citizen login portal is at esathi.up.gov.in. You can also reach it from edistrict.up.gov.in by clicking "Citizen Login (eSathi)." The old URL edistrict.up.nic.in redirects to edistrict.up.gov.in automatically.
Is my Login ID the same as my mobile number?
No. Your Login ID is the unique 6–8 character username you created during registration (like atul123). It is not your mobile number, email, or Aadhaar number. Use "Forgot Login ID" if you cannot remember it.
Can I use the same Login ID on the eSathi website and the mobile app?
Yes. Your eSathi credentials work on both. However, the Android app was removed from Google Play Store in August 2024. The web portal works fully on mobile browsers.
What if my registered mobile number has changed?
If you no longer have access to the mobile number used during registration, you cannot reset your password via OTP. Contact the helpline at 0522-2304706 or email ceghelpdesk@gmail.com with your Login ID and identity details.
Is registration free?
Yes. Creating an eSathi account is completely free. You only pay the service charge (₹10–15) when you submit a specific application.
Can I create multiple accounts with different Login IDs?
You can create only one account per mobile number. If you need a separate account, use a different mobile number linked to their own Aadhaar.
Why does the portal say "site not reachable" or show a blank page?
The portal runs on government servers with limited capacity. During peak traffic it may be temporarily unreachable. Try early morning or late night. Use Chrome and clear your cache.
What is the captcha? Why does it keep failing?
The captcha is a security code shown as distorted text. Type it exactly as shown (case-sensitive). Click refresh for a new one. Clear browser cache and disable ad-blockers.
